Greg Oden Cuts List to IU, & Three Others

Greg Oden, picked by many as Player of the Year, visited Wake Forest last weekend but wouldn't rate any school a favorite. From AP and Special Dispatches
Greg Oden, a 7-foot junior considered by many the top high school basketball player in the nation, has narrowed his college choices to Indiana, Ohio State, Michigan State and Wake Forest.

Greg Oden led Lawrence North to its second straight Indiana Class 4-A championship last month and was named national Player of the Year by USA Today, Gatorade and Parade magazine. He has been projected as a top National Basketball Association draft pick next year but repeatedly has said he wants to play college ball.

He and teammate Mike Conley, a point guard who also is considered one of the top players in the class of 2006, visited Wake Forest last weekend.

"We had a good time," Greg Oden told The Indianapolis Star, but he would not rate any of his four possible choices as a favorite.

Conley said he and Greg Oden will visit Ohio State in late May but that recruiters should not think of them as a package.

"We like some of the same schools, and maybe that's why people think that," Conley said. "We're not a package deal, but it would be fun to play with each other after high school."

Conley, son of former Olympic triple-jump champion Mike Conley, listed Wake Forest, Ohio State, Illinois, North Carolina and Arkansas as his choices.
