Greg Oden Named Gatorade Player of the Year Again

Lawrence North High star Greg Oden was named the Gatorade National Boys Basketball player of the year for the second time in a row, a feat accomplished only by Cleveland Cavaliers all-star LeBron James. Greg Oden a 7-foot man child who play for Ohio State University in the fall, led his high school team to its third state title in four years last month, averaging 22 points, 10.5 rebounds, and shooting an astounding 74 percent from the field, Greg Oden who is very calm and mild mannered was elated he received such a prestigious award, "This is one of my greatest moments," Greg Oden said at a news conference Tuesday.

"I'm very happy to win this award, and I'm very grateful.", the award is based on athletic performance, academic achievement, and personal character three categories Greg Oden excels in, he is an honor student with a 3.6 grade point average, on top of receiving the honor from Gatorade, Greg Oden was named the Naismith high school player of the year by the Atlanta Tip-off Club last month, he now joins such stars as Kobe Bryant of the Los Angeles Lakers, Chris Webber of the Philadelphia 76ers, and Alonzo Mourning of the Miami Heat as Gatorade honorees.

Greg Oden is the epitome of what a student-athlete should be as he balances the classroom and athletics perfectly to go along with having a humble demeanor which isn’t seen in most of today’s elite stars which is refreshing, the Ohio State University should feel fortunate to have such player/person as Greg Oden no matter if he stays one year or four years.
